Is a cable based connection to a mobile device officially supported?#

Yes, for OneX. No, for OneR & OneX2. Even so the functionality is implemented at an unsupported level and you may try but expect unstable results.

Can the app be used with a cable based connection?#

Yes. But it depends if you use an Android or iOS device. If you use Android you are on the save side and you "only" need need either a special transfer/streaming cable like for the OneX, or have to first power on your camera & start the app before connecting the USB cable.

If you are on iOS you also need a camera version only sold as "Apple Bundle" which provides the needed iOS USB-mode.

What makes the cable special?#

The special streaming/transfer cable for the OneX is a double sided OTG cable (Android) and a MFI certified cable with a microUSB OTG side (iOS).

Is it possible to live stream over Wi-Fi?#

Yes. But you need a cable based connection to your camera.

Cable vs Wi-Fi#

Asking about the advantages of a cable based connection those are very limited.
